SCIFOR INTRODUCES AFFORDABLE, RELIABLE PRODUCTION SERVICES FOR SCIENTIFIC, TECHNICAL AND MEDICAL POSTER PRESENTATIONS

ISSUES NEW GUIDELINES FOR POSTER PRESENTATIONS IN THE DIGITAL AGE

BREWSTER, NY - June 4, 2001 - SciFor Inc has introduced a fast, reliable and affordable digital design and printing service that simplifies the complex and time-consuming process of preparing of scientific, technical and medical poster presentations. Combining expertise in printing, publishing, visual communications and digital access, SciFor offers a new, one-stop service for high-impact, high-quality scientific posters.

SciFor's web-based custom poster preparation process allows researchers to choose the size, color and information flow of their poster and upload text and graph elements directly to SciFor's production department any time, day or night, at his or her convenience. SciFor prepares a professional design for customer approval electronically via a standard PDF (Portable Document Format) file. Once the poster is approved for both design and content, SciFor uses state-of-the-art graphic arts technology to print the poster on heavyweight-coated paper, then ships the finished presentation ready-to-go with a carrying case, a hanging business card holder and push pins, all for as little as $149.95 (plus shipping & handling). Black and white and color 11" x 17" reprints are also available for handouts.

Frank Burgel, Chairman and Co-Founder of SciFor, said, "In the past thirty years, the need to communicate, disseminate and document advances in science, technology and medicine have outstripped the capacity of scientific sessions at scholarly meetings and conferences. As a result, poster sessions have proliferated. We estimate that this year over 50 percent of all abstracts, or several hundred thousand posters will be approved and presented at scientific meetings and conferences. Poster presentations have become the third leg of the scholarly publication tripod, joining abstracts and published papers in journals as an essential component of scientific communications."

"The majority of scientific posters today, however, are still assembled and displayed using the same cut and paste techniques used for the past three decades," Burgel continued. "But digital alternatives such as SciFor's service have become surprisingly affordable and offer many advantages over do-it-yourself techniques. They not only circumvent the complex spatial and proportional design issues inherent in cut and paste methods, but are also more professional looking, more convenient to transport, and easier to reproduce in small sizes for handouts. And presentations produced in this manner are ready to archive and disseminate electronically as well."

SciFor Updates Poster Preparation Guidelines

SciFor was founded to respond for the need to reliably produce high-impact posters with all the benefits of digital communications and printing capabilities. And in conjunction with the inauguration of its new design and printing service, the company has issued a set of contemporary guidelines for preparing scientific posters in the digital age to help researchers create the most effective presentation of information about important research.

"As visual explanations, scientific posters need to be judged by their presentation as well as their content. And as concise communication tools used in presentations given to small groups of people in short informal and interactive sessions, posters need to attract viewers and provoke curiosity. We wanted to present guidelines for effective poster design that address these purposes and offer strategies for the proper arrangement of information, graphical elegance, and representations of complex data," Burgel said.

SciFor's new guidelines offer tips and suggestions for the preparation of posters and include special considerations when using the digital production and printing process. The guidelines are available free of charge directly from SciFor and can be accessed on the company's web site at www.scifor.com.
